BWAA Pezzano Scholarship Virtual Tournament
Garners $1886.00 in Donations
Arlington, Tex. – The Bowling Writers Association of America annual charity tournament to benefit the Chuck Pezzano Scholarship Fund raised $1886.00 during the competition week of February 8-14, 2010. BWAA would like to gratefully acknowledge our sponsors, VirtualTournaments.com, Roto Grip, Threadworks Inc. and the Reno Eldorado Hotel & Casino.
Despite the fact that the tournament qualifying week heralded devastating weather nationwide, this was our highest donation total since the tournament has run under the BWAA banner starting in 2008. Much of the Eastern Seaboard and Midwest America was shut down due to record storm activity and those living in much of the country were not able to bowl in their regular league sessions that week, which disqualified them from tournament competition.
There were 181 players who competed for 34 cash spots, paying out a total of $1602.76 in prize money for the regular handicap events. Winners were paid on a 1 for 5 ratio in three divisions; 169 and under division, 38 entries, 7 winners, $329.75 paid out; 170-199 division, 54 entries, 10 winners, $424.76 paid out; 200+ division, 89 entries, 17 winners, $848.25 paid out.
In the BWAA Members Only division there was a disappointing 20 registered entrants. Frank Wilkinson, Staten Island, N.Y. was our men’s scratch winner with a 659 series and Jackie Wyckoff, Campbell, Calif., was the women’s scratch winner with a 623 series. The handicap division winners were Ann Block, Taylor, Mich., with a total score of 637 and David Prange, Las Vegas, Nev., with a total score of 599. Each of the scratch winners will receive a certificate from Roto Grip for a new bowling ball of their choice and each of the handicap winners will receive a BWAA logo shirt of their choice from Threadworks, Inc.
The Bowling Writers Association of America annually awards Scholarships to worthy recipients. The scholarship is named in honor of journalist Chuck Pezzano of Clifton, N.J. Chuck is a member of the BWAA, United States Bowling Congress and Professional Bowlers Association Halls of Fame.
