Member Classification

Open to journalists who actively communicate news and information about the sport of tenpin bowling through printed or electronic media.

  • National Media
    Writers/editors/photojournalists employed by national bowling publications; public relations representatives of nationally-recognized bowling organizations or companies; and those who regularly submit articles to any national bowling news medium.
  • Daily/Weekly Newspapers
    Sports editors, staff writers, columnists or freelance writers who regularly submit bowling articles to the daily or weekly press.
  • Local Bowling Publications
    Publishers, editors, staff writers, columnists or regular contributors to regional/local bowling publications. Such publications must have published at least two issues before an application for membership can be considered. 
  • Radio/Television
    Reporters/announcers for a national/local bowling program, or who regularly cover the sport for the electronic news media, including Internet web sites. 
  • Cartoonist/Illustrator
    Individuals who regularly submit orginal artwork pertaining to bowling to any news medium. 
  • Freelance Writers
    Individuals not covered above who regularly write articles and/or books on bowling.
  • Inactive/Retired
    Individuals who are no longer active, or who have retired, but wish to remain active as members of the BWAA.
  • Public Relations Associates
    Individuals who work in public relations for an organization, company or agency involved in sponsorship of bowling events/programs.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP
Life membership is bestowed by a three-fourths vote of those present and voting at the Annual Meeting

BWAA ready to accept applications for the 2011 Pezzano Scholarship

 

Applications are now being accepted for the Bowling Writers’ Association of America’s Chuck Pezzano Scholarship awarded annually to worthy recipients who are high school seniors, vocational school seniors or current college students. The award is named in honor of BWAA, United States Bowling Congress and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Fame journalist Chuck Pezzano of Clifton, N.J.

O’NEILL REALLY NABS ANOTHER BWAA BOWLER OF THE MONTH AWARD

 

Bill O’Neill of Southampton, Pennsylvania, has been named the October 2010 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America.

In the 60-game qualifier for the 2010 PBA World Championship, O’Neill averaged nearly 227 becoming the #1 seed for the television finals. He also qualified for match play in four of the five match play rounds in the PBA World Series, featuring 12 games on each of the PBA’s five animal patterns. In the process, O’Neill became the #3 seed for the Pepsi Viper Championship and #4 seed in the Scorpion Championship for their respective television finals.

This marks O’Neill’s fourth Kegel BWAA Bowler of the Month honor in the last 13 months.

Nicknamed “The Real Deal,” O’Neill is coming off his breakthrough season, winning his first PBA title, the Chameleon Championship at the inaugural PBA World Series and his first major title, the 67th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open.

Others receiving votes were Chris Barnes, winner of the 8th Columbia 300 Vienna Open and #4 seed in the PBA World Championship TV finals, Sean Rash, #2 seed in the PBA World Championship TV finals, Michael Fagan, winner of the Ebonite Lahti Open, and Lynda Barnes, winner of the AMF Australian Masters
