While majoring in journalism at Northern Illinois University, Lyle Zikes began a career-long relationship with Bowlers Journal magazine with the publication of his first article in 1976. After graduating in 1978, Zikes worked as PBA Press Director for four years and later as PBA Director of Operations. Along with Bowlers Journal, Zikes has been a regular contributor to several other bowling publications including, Bowling Digest, Bowling Magazine, Bowling Industry and Pro Shop Operator. Through the 1990s he was a regular bowling correspondent for the Daily Herald, a large suburban Chicago newspaper.
Zikes helps operate Beverly Lanes, a 24 lane bowling center in Arlington Heights, Ill., owned by his family. He served as President of the Chicagoland BPA 2003-05 just after his term as BWAA president in 2001-02.
