BWAA BOWLERS OF THE YEAR (PDF)
Committee Task:
Make selection of candidates for Bowlers of the Year. Determine the type of award to be presented.
Eligibility:
Male and female professional and amateur bowlers are eligible.
Chairman's Duties:
Notify committee members of deadline for submitting names and gather appropriate statistical support for the national ballot, including titles, earnings, season average and other pertinent information.
Poll committee for selection of candidates to be included on ballot. Candidate must receive vote of majority of committee to be placed on the ballot. A maximum of five and a minimum of three men and women must be included on their respective ballots.
Prepare ballot and distribute to regular and life members, along with statistical fact sheet, in a timely manner. The ballot will instruct electors to vote for a maximum of three men and three women candidates. Electors must sign and return ballots to the Executive Director by a deadline date set by the Chairman.
Executive Director will confirm the legitimacy of all ballots and tabulate the outcome of the voting based upon the following point system. Ballots received after the announced voting deadline, or received without signature/identification of vote, will be declared null and void:
First place vote = 5 points, Second place vote = 2 points, Third place vote = 1 point
The nominee receiving the most points in each category shall be declared Male and Female Bowler of the Year, respectively.
The Executive Director shall make every effort to notify the winners in advance of issuance of a news release.
Award Presentation:
An award selected by the Executive Director and approved by the committee shall be presented to the respective winners at an appropriate time selected by the President. If the President is unable to make the presentation, he/she may appoint a representative to make the presentation.
The association may, at the discretion of the Executive Director and the committee, award commercial sponsorship for the Bowlers of the Year awards.
General:

Committee members may keep track of out-of pocket expenses (postage and telephone) and send them to the chairman who will forward them to the Executive Director for reimbursement.

BWAA AMATEUR BOWLERS OF THE YEAR (PDF)
Committee Task:
To research candidates and select Amateur Bowlers of the Year.
Eligibility:
Male and female bowlers who meet the FIQ amateur standards.
Chairman's Duties:
The chairman shall provide each committee member with a description of the selection process and procedures.
June/July
Advise the committee to gather information on outstanding amateur performance in USBC Open and Women's Championships, Team USA, Team Canada, Youth and Collegiate events and forward to Chairman by November 15.
November
Prepare a list of possible candidates with information on accomplishment and send to the committee. Request they add any other candidates that may have been overlooked. Send a request for additional information to possible candidates.
December
Prepare a ballot and send to committee to cut the list to 20 in each division. Provide a date for ballots to be returned.
January
1) Prepare final ballot and send to committee. Instructions should be included to vote for up to five and indicate order — 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Provide a date for ballots to be returned.
2) Tally ballots using the following point system: First - 8 points, Second - 5 points, Third - 3 points, Fourth - 2 points, Fifth - 1 point
Winners will be declared by greatest number of points received in each division.
Award Presentation:
Winner(s) are announced and the award presented at a time and place selected by the Chairman, President and Executive Director. USBC purchases the awards.
General:

SENIOR BOWLER(S) OF THE YEAR (PDF)
Committee Task:
To research candidates and select winner(s) of Senior Bowler(s) of the Year Award. A man or a woman, or both a man and a woman, may be selected.
Eligibility:
Male or female bowlers who are 50 years of age as of January 1st in the year of competition.
Chairman's Duties:
September
The chairman shall provide each committee member with a description of the selection process and procedures.
The chairman shall develop a list of five or more candidates from statistics provided by professional national tournament tours and major national and international bowling organizations and forward to committee with request to add additional candidates. Statistical information should be included. Provide a return date for additional candidates to be submitted.
The committee shall decide whether a man and a woman shall be honored based on the strength of the candidates.
November
Prepare a ballot to include all candidates submitted and instruct committee to vote for up to five in each division (if two awards are to be presented). Provide a return date for ballot.
December
The chairman prepares a ballot when the final list of five candidates has been completed by the committee and statistical information updated. Candidates should receive the support of the majority of the committee to be placed on the ballot.
The chairman distributes the ballots to the Committee, BWAA Board of Directors and Past President's with instructions to vote for up to three. Ballots shall include a return date of late December or early January.
January
The chairman tabulates the votes using the following point system: First - 5 points, Second - 2 points, Third - 1 point
The winner shall be the bowler(s) with the most points.

BWAA COLLEGIATE COMMITTEE (PDF)
Committee Responsibilities:
1) Select male and female Collegiate Bowlers of the Year and four runner-ups in each division.
2) Conduct the BWAA Collegiate Poll.
Collegiate Bowler of the Year Eligibility:
College Bowling USA intercollegiate eligibility required.
Sanctioned conference and tournament competition between August 1 and the Sunday 15 days prior to selection meeting, is eligible for consideration.
BWAA Collegiate Poll Eligibility:
College Bowling USA determines which events' results will be included in the data supplied to the poll panelists.
Chairman's Duties:
March - July
Decide, jointly with NCBCA, on dates for the BWAA and NCBCA polls for the coming season (currently 3).
Confirm C B of Y sponsorship arrangements with current sponsor. If new sponsor is needed, negotiations are handled by the Executive Director.
July
Inform College Bowling USA of any changes needed in nomination form for the coming season. (Form is printed in the College Bowling handbook.)
Inform CBUSA of poll dates for the coming season.
August
Send copy of committee procedures, previous year's press release and previous committee meeting minutes.
Oct. - Apr.
Remind poll panelists of ballot deadlines. Tabulate ballots when received and prepare poll for release. Send to Publicity Committee, College Bowling USA, and CollegeBowling.com.
March
Verify nominees' eligibility with College Bowling USA.
Forward nomination forms to committee by priority mail. Inform committee members of committee meeting time at BWAA convention. CollegeBowling.com provides data on automatic nominees to committee members (preferably by email).
Prepare material for convention. Prepare report for Board of Directors meeting.
At convention site, announce the 8 finalists in each division. Results of final ballot kept secret until April presentation.
April
Winners announced and awards presented at the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships.
Scholarships, if applicable, issued through the USBC Youth Division's SMART program.
BWAA Poll Process:
1) Each Collegiate Committee member is expected to serve on at least one of the two polls. Additional BWAA members, not on the Collegiate Committee, are to be appointed to the polls by the President, with a desired total of 8 to 10 panelists for each poll. (A member may serve on both poll panels.)
2) College Bowling USA sends data for each poll to the panelists for that poll, by email if possible, otherwise by fax. (Due to the time limitations, panelists must be able to receive the material supplied by CBUSA by either email or fax.)
3) Each panelists votes for 20 teams, ranking them from 1st to 20th. Panelists send their ballot to the Collegiate Committee chair, preferably by email, otherwise by fax. Points are awarded as follows for each vote cast:

To be ranked in the top 10, a school must be listed on at least 3 ballots; and to be listed in the top 20, a school must be listed on at least 2 ballots. If a team must be lowered in ranking due to this restriction, then the point totals of the teams that are to be moved above it shall be adjusted upwards as necessary to achieve the change in ranked position.
4) The poll shall indicate the top 20 teams (men & women) in order showing the number of points and number of first place votes received. Other teams receiving votes shall be listed in alphabetical order without point totals.
C B of Y Selection Process:
1) Go through nominees without discussion. Members may vote "in" (keep for next round) or "out" (drop from further consideration). One "in" vote (regardless of number of '"out'" votes) keeps the nominee in or the second round.
2) Go through nominees with discussion. Members vote "in'" or "out" with a majority "in" vote required for further consideration. Repeat round 2, as needed, to reduce number of nominees to 8 finalists.
3) Members vote by secret ballot. Members select up to three. Ballots are tabulated based on 6-4-3-2-1 point system. Point totals determine results. In the case of a tie for 1st place, most 1st place votes determines winner. If tie still exists, tie is left unbroken.

Symbolic awards should be in $50 - $70 each price range, with engraving/inscription that includes sponsor name. Presentation is at Intercollegiate Bowling Championships awards reception if winners are competing. Others will be presented at a time and place selected by the Chairman, President and/or Executive Director.

BWAA High School Bowler of the Year (PDF) | Application
Committee Responsibilities:
Select male and female High School Bowlers of the Year and four runner-ups in each division.
High School Bowler of the Year Eligibility:
1. USBC High School eligibility required. 2. Players on High School teams in Varsity Level States and Club Level States are eligible. No intramural competition will be considered.
Nomination Process:
High School bowlers may be nominated by any BWAA member or their own high school coach.
Criteria to include:
- Student-athlete's bowling accomplishments from the current school year
- Academic achievement
- Minimum requirements for selection include a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
- Letters of recommendation (at least two letters)
- Extracurricular and community involvement
- Submitted essay (topic: how high school bowling affected me)
- Resume

CHUCK PEZZANO SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
Candidates eligible for the Chuck Pezzano Scholarship must be college students or graduating high school seniors. The candidates should have shown an interest in communications and the sport of bowling.
Bowling accomplishments are a plus but not an eligibility requirement. If possible, candidates from the BWAA convention site (city, state or region) should be considered.
The chairperson is responsible for making contact in our host city (state or region) to seek potential candidates. This should be done no later than December 31. The general membership should be invited to submit resumes for qualified candidates to the chairperson by no later than December 31.
Candidate resumes should be sent to the committee in January and a vote taken to decide winner or winners. The winners should be announced at the BWAA Annual Meeting. It is preferable to invite the winners to attend the meeting (at their own expense) for a formal presentation. In the absence of a presentation during the BWAA Annual Meeting, the committee chair should recommend to the President and/or Executive Director a suitable location and time for a presentation, and, if possible, the name of a presenter.
The committee has the option of selecting one male and/or one female winner, or not presenting scholarships if there are not enough funds or qualified candidates.

BWAA HALL OF FAME AWARD
Committee Task:
To research and select for a national ballot eligible candidates who have made distinguished contributions to print, broadcast, telecast or photographic coverage of bowling.
Candidate Eligibility:
Nominees must be living at the time of nomination.
Chairman's Duties:
June/July
Write to committee outlining committee function (for benefit of new members). Send list of candidates from previous national ballots. Request additional proposed candidates from committee members by mid August.
Sept. 1
Deadline for receiving nominations.
Early Sept.
Provide committee members with a ballot listing all candidates and instructions to vote for the 5 to be included on the national ballot. All candidates receiving a majority vote of the committee, up to 8, will be included on the national ballot. A summary of each candidate's biography should be included. Instruct committee members to return ballot within 10 days.
Mid Sept.
Follow-up by phone or mail, ballots not returned.
If more than 8 candidates receive votes from a majority of committee, send new ballot to determine final 8 for national ballot.
Oct. 15

Committee Task:
To research and select eligible candidates for a national ballot who have devoted time, energy and talent for the betterment of the sport of bowling.
Candidate Eligibility:
Nominees may be individuals, industries or organizations. BWAA members are not eligible for this award.
Chairman's Duties:
June/July
Write to committee outlining committee function (for benefit of new members). Send list of candidates from previous national ballots. Request additional proposed candidates from committee members by mid August.

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE (PDF)
Committee Task:
To write and distribute news releases before and after annual convention.
Chairman's Duties:
January
Contact Co-chairman, Executive Director and Seminar chairman to get details on events, speakers, awards, etc. for the March convention.
Prepare a news release and forward to Executive Director for distribution approximately three weeks prior to event.
March
Write and distribute through the Executive Director, follow-up news release on convention. Release should include the following information:
Award winners, new officers, USBC and PBA writing contest winners, Bowling Writer of the Year and Humanitarian awards from Murrey International, sponsored events and any news resulting from convention seminars.
General:
