"Teddy Bear" fund-raiser set for USBC Convention
BWAA will continue a long-standing tradition started by the National Women Bowling Writers by conducting a special "Teddy Bear" raffle during the 2008 USBC Convention in Kansas City, Mo., May 7-10.
All BWAA members are encouraged to donate a Teddy Bear (size should be 10-12 inches tall) to the fund-raiser, which again will be organized by BWAA member Helen Lesh of Roseburg, Ore. Teddy Bears of all types - dressed, plain, unique - are welcome. The bears will be displayed at the Westin Crown Center where all USBC delegates will have an opportunity to participate in the raffle.
NWBW used this program to help raise more than $60,000 in contributions for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame over the years. In the past, items such as music boxes and snow globes have been featured.
If you'd like to donate a bear to the 2008 project, please call Helen at 541-672-1151 or drop her a note: 2090 NW Excello Loop, Roseburg, Ore. 97470.

March already – wow, were does the time go? As we get ready to make our plans to meet with members in Kansas City and Orlando, I hope each of our members have renewed their membership so that they can take advantage of the scheduled activities.
We are very pleased that John McCoy and Jack Cook of the National Amateur Bowlers Incorporated (NABI) will be sponsoring our breakfast in Kansas City on May 8th. This will be a great opportunity for many of you to hear about the activities of NABI as well as the activities planned for BWAA in Orlando in June at our annual convention. BWAA will be presenting our Writing Awards at the breakfast. Please check the website and contact Nancy Chapman for registration to attend the breakfast.
BWAA will continue the practice of the former National Women’s Bowling Writers with a charity sale at Kansas City. Helen Lesh is handling the committee that will raise money for our charities by the sale of teddy bears. Please contact Helen if you have a bear to donate to the cause.
The BWAA Newsletter committee distributes a newsletter to all current members about four times a year, either by email or postal service. Past issues are posted on this website. I hope that each of you are sharing the news with the bowlers in your area. The internet and e-mail has made communication so much easier and quicker and it is less expensive to circulate news when we don’t have to rely strictly on the postal services. Some members post the information from the newsletter and releases in their own newsletter and websites or in the local bowling center. Please continue to keep the bowling public informed about our great sport.
Again, don’t forget to renew your membership. I look forward to seeing you in Kansas City and Orlando.
Hazel McLeary, President
Bowling Writers Association of America
